Workers’ Compensation Court Special Mediation Week; Local COVID-19 Assistance for Small Businesses

The Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation Court is holding its now Annual Special Mediation Week Monday, December 7, 2020 – Friday, December 11, 2020 for work injury cases which have no current pending petitions before the Workers’ Compensation Court.

The successful program allows parties on either side of a work injury matter to submit any claim for a mediation session even though there may be no petition currently pending before the Workers’ Compensation Court. This program allows cases to be mediated so long as both parties agree to do so. The mediations take place before one of the sitting or retired judges of the Court with no fee due for the mediator’s time.

The special mediation program began last December as an adjunct to the widely successful year-round regular mediation program for pending matters in the Workers’ Compensation Court, which was started by RI Workers’ Compensation Court Chief Judge Robert M. Ferrieri.
