Rhode Island will be expanding its medical marijuana program this coming year to include six new medical dispensaries. In this CLE, participants will learn the legal framework and history of medical marijuana in Rhode Island. We will discuss some unique considerations for marijuana businesses, such as special lease, general business contract, and employment contract provisions. We will review some of the challenges with continued federal illegality, particularly in intellectual property law, federal litigation, and banking, and creative strategies to deal with these issues. Finally, we will review the adult use legal framework in Massachusetts and pull out lessons or potential forecasts for any future adult use in Rhode Island.
