Drop Your Anchor

Supporting attorneys in building relationships, sharing experience, and navigating their careers.

The Rhode Island Bar Association offers opportunities designed to support attorneys at every stage of their careers. Whether you are new to practice or looking to stay engaged, these resources help you navigate questions, gain practical insight, and build relationships within the Rhode Island legal community, so you can find your place and drop your anchor at the Bar.

The Anchor Network
The Anchor Network is the Bar’s primary program for professional guidance and engagement, designed to give attorneys easy access to one another across a wide range of practice areas.

Through the Anchor Network, members can connect with experienced attorneys who have volunteered to serve as Anchors for professional questions, procedural insight, and general guidance. The program is flexible by design, allowing attorneys to reach out as needed or request more ongoing support.

To access the Anchor Network directory, RIBA members must be logged in to the website. The directory includes Anchors, along with their areas of experience and contact information, making it easy to browse, identify a relevant Anchor, and reach out directly.

Examples of Appropriate Inquiries

  • Clarifying a particular court’s filing expectations
  • Asking how a rule or regulation is applied in practice
  • Understanding what to expect when working in a new area of law
  • Seeking input on managing a law office or transitioning to solo practice

Program Guidelines
To ensure the program remains accessible and respectful of participants’ time:

  • Initial outreach should be brief and focused (approximately 3–5 minutes), unless both parties agree to continue the conversation
  • The program is not intended for co-counsel arrangements or case-specific legal advice
  • The Anchor Network is designed for general questions and guidance; members seeking a more ongoing, one-on-one relationship are encouraged to request ongoing support
