Summary

This seminar discusses the evolution of social host liability in Rhode Island, including circumstances that could lead to liability despite our Supreme Courts refusal, thus far, to recognize a theory of liability based on social host liability. It explores notable differences in neighboring states' laws. Additionally, the seminar examines recent changes in homeowner's insurance coverage and its implications for potential defendants in social host actions. For instance, if you're out of town and your 18-year-old son or daughter calls to inform you about a party with alcohol and things getting out of hand, this seminar helps address two crucial questions: Are we liable? Are we covered?
