2021 Annual Rhode Island Bar Association Awards Winners


Congratulations to all our 2021 award winners! As a reminder, the 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 23rd and 24th. Please also consider joining us at our Annual Meeting Luncheon, on Friday, June 25th at 12:00 pm at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick in their tented Pavilion. We will hear a brief update on Bar Foundation activities, honor our awards winners from 2020 and 2021, hear RI Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell’s traditional perspective on the state of the Judiciary, and swear-in our incoming president, Lynda L. Laing.
 
CHIEF JUSTICE JOSEPH R. WEISBERGER JUDICIAL EXCELLENCE AWARD
This award is presented to a judge of the Rhode Island State Courts or Federal District Court for exemplifying and encouraging the highest level of competence, integrity, judicial temperament, ethical conduct, and professionalism.

JOSEPH T. HOULIHAN LIFETIME MENTOR AWARD
This award honors individuals who, during their careers, have consistently demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to successfully mentoring in the Rhode Island legal community. The award recognizes an attorney who serves as a role model to other lawyers in Rhode Island, who has significantly contributed to the profession and/or the community, and who, with his or her excellent counsel, has excelled as a mentor and contributed to the ideals of ethics, civility, professionalism, and legal skills.

DOROTHY LOHMANN COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD 
This award recognizes and honors attorneys who generously donate their time and legal expertise for charitable work. Nominations are accepted from, and only from, non-profit organizations where Rhode Island attorneys have devoted a significant amount of their time and effort on a strictly voluntary, non-paid basis.

2021 PRO BONO AWARDS
Since 1987, Pro Bono Awards have recognized the outstanding efforts of those who provide equal access to justice to the poor through a Rhode Island Bar Association pro bono program.
