North Smithfield Municipal Court Closure; RI Division of Taxation Extended Emergency Regulation & Reminder About Grant Program; Upcoming Workers’ Compensation Practice and the COVID-19 Court CLE Webinar


According to an email from North Smithfield Municipal Court Judge Aram Jarret, the North Smithfield Municipal Court will be closed for the month of December. All matters are hereby continued to the next scheduled dates which are as follows:
  • Arraignment rescheduled: January 6, 2021 at 6:00 pm
  • Trial rescheduled: January 20, 2021 at 6:00 pm 
In the interim, emergency inquires can be made with the North Smithfield Municipal Court Clerk by email at court@nsmithfieldri.org or by phone at 401-765-5734.

According to an email from the Rhode Island Division of Taxation, the Division has extended an emergency regulation that provides withholding-tax guidance for employers that have employees who are temporarily working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Division also issued a reminder about the grant program announced by Governor Gina M. Raimondo for restaurants and bars that have been ordered to close earlier than usual because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using federal Coronavirus Relief Funds, the Governor authorized the payment of grants to the impacted businesses.
