Rhode Island Superior Court 2020 Settlement Week Update

According to an email advisory from RI Superior Court Presiding Justice Alice B. Gibney, given the current concerns and increase in numbers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the following message serves as an update to Justice Gibney’s October correspondence.

The Superior Court will conduct Settlement Week during the week of December 14, 2020. Sessions are planned for Monday through Wednesday; additional days may be added if necessary. To ensure the safety of mediators, courthouse staff and parties, we have determined that hearings must be conducted remotely. However, if you feel it is imperative that your matter be handled in person, with counsel present or with both counsel and parties, please prepare a statement setting forth your purpose and concerns. It should be emailed to Mary Smith (msmith@courts.ri.gov); we will review these statements and, depending upon mediator availability, attempt to accommodate you.

Please note that we are extending the e-filing period for Submissions and Case Summaries through November 16th. In order to collect all information, allow for conflict checks and scheduling, this is a firm date and no new submissions will be accepted after that date.  Please review the Mediation Form carefully and note that all information must be complete and accurate in order to schedule a matter.

We appreciate your patience and consideration as we work together to maintain justice in our communities and keep matters moving in the courts during this difficult time.
