Amendments to Indigent Defense Payment Rates

07/01/2019 -According to a news release from the RI Supreme Court, over the preceding term, the Supreme Court, with input from the Superior, Family and District Courts, undertook an analysis of the Judiciary's indigent defense panels in order to assess the viability of the hourly rates and thresholds laid out in Executive Order 2013-07.  This review included research regarding national standards for indigent defense rates and a fiscal impact study.

In order to better facilitate the provision of competent legal representation for indigent defense services and certain civil panels, and to enhance the uniform and efficient payment of services therefor, Executive Order 2013-07 has been amended to increase the hourly rates and thresholds for select panels, as reflected on the attached Executive Order 2019-06, accessible here.

The order will take effect on July 1, 2019 and will be applicable to all pending cases.
